When did you do the Big Chop?
I began transitioning in Feb of 2011 and did the B.C. May 17, 2011.
Have you ever had hair this short? If not, how does it affect you mentally?
I’ve had hair this short before but it has always been relaxed. In the beginning it was very difficult for me to accept myself with Natural hair to be quite honest because I grew up in an all Mexican Family, (My Mother is half) and was raised by a Grandmother who’s always reminding me not to forget I’m Mexican but while doing so I was trying to fit in to a community that wasn’t the only one I belong to & it REALLY played on my self esteem.

What are your hair goals?
My hair goals are very simple, to have healthy hair and rediscover the true meaning of being beautiful, black, & natural.
Have you received any negative comments about your hair?
When I first went Natural my family were not big fans. They said it wasn’t me and some of them didn’t even like it. That was the toughest part for me, receiving negative feedback from people who I felt I needed admiration from to feel beautiful. On that same token I feel as though I can & am redefining beauty amongst the black women in my family…hopefully! LOL!
What do you love most about your TWA?
What I Love the most about my T.W.A. is that its me. Its naturally me! The hair that God gave me. I feel like I walk a little more proudly, I feel stronger, I feel MORE beautiful than before. For me going Natural was not a fashion trend or a quest for healthier hair; it was a journey for me to accept who & what I am. For me to redefine beauty and the way I view myself. I feel so amazing that I actually stepped outside the (relaxed) box LOL and had the courage to be me. An individual with her own ideas of beauty & to me this is beautiful.
