The LocD Files: Strait Jigg

What is your name and what do you do?

My name is Jigg, (Strait Jigg). I’m an upcoming rapper in New Orleans & a small time hip hop promoter (mainly for rap group, Da U Boys)

How long have you been growing out your locs?

I have had my dreadlocks for almost 6yrs. (Since Hurricane Katrina)

Who is your loctician?

I’m str8 outta the hood (lol) so I rarely go to the hair salon to get my dreads touched up. Usual do them myself or have a female friend do it. (I actually started my dreads myself when I was 17)

What is your regimen for your locs?

I don’t have much of a “regimen”. When I decide that they need a touch up I wash them & get them done. & I might spray different oils on them every now & again.

Have your locs ever hindered you professionally?

Yes. I have actually quit jobs b4 starting, because of my hair. I have gone to interviews, got the job, showed up for work & then wuz told my hair needed to be cut. Obviously, I quit on the spot. (Lol)

Any advice to someone just starting out on their journey?

Be patient. Ur dreads won’t grow down ur back over night! & wear them the way YOU want. Other people’s opinions don’t matter. Its your hair.

  1. I loved this piece on Jigg! He has a beautiful head of locs. To say that he is very low maintenance with them they are always so polished. Surprisingly he does his own up keep which speaks volumes for the time and pride he has in his locs. This was good interview.

  2. I love his honest answers…it seems like he has the same advice towards locs like I do…and he is cute!!

  3. Sounds like a simple regimen…less is sometimes more.

  4. I like your dreads. On seriously thinking about locking my hair.
