What is your name and your profession?
Myeshia Carter. I am a recent college graduate and will start working at Pepsico Beverages Company as a Sales Associate in July.
Why did you go natural?
I went natural because I wanted to define my own standard of beauty and to stop letting society tell me what is beautiful or how I should look to be attractive.
How long have you been natural and when did you BC?
I big chopped in August of 2009, so I have been natural for 4 1/2 years.
What are your staple products and hairstyles?
Staple products now are Shea Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner and also their Reconstructive Oil. For deep conditioning I use Mayonnaise, Honey and Eggs. I also use Apple Cider Vinegar for cleansing. The oils that I use are Jojoba, Tea Tree, Avocado,Castor, Vitamin E, Coconut, Olive and Lavender oils.
-My favorite hairstyles are pretty much protective tuck and roll styles. Those are usually the type of styles that I create. I also love Flexi Rod styles.
What are your natural hair goals?
My natural hair goals are to maintain healthy and fuller hair. I would also like to achieve mid-back length hair by the end of the year, so I have a lot of nurturing to do.
How do you keep your hair intact overnight?
Overnight, I wear a satin cap and try not to tie it too tightly. Depending on the style, I spritz water and aloe vera juice on my hair before tying it up.
How do you maintain length?
I maintain length by oiling every other day, tying my hair up, keeping it moisturized, I only get it cut maybe once or twice a year, but trim the ends every 6 weeks, and I refrain from putting too much tension on it. I also only shampoo once a month.
Name 1 reason you went natural and why you love being natural.
One reason I went natural is, because I wanted to love myself for how I really looked outside of the perm. I wanted to accept my natural features and love me despite society’s objection. One reason I love being natural is because I feel that it is the most beautiful thing a woman can do for herself. Society is always telling a woman how she should look, but when women step outside of that and love themselves for how they naturally look, I believe that is a great reward to yourself.
